Item Cobertura do sistema de abastecimento público de água na região de saúde entorno de Manaus(Universidade do Estado do Amazonas, 2019-06-11) Cuellar, Eva Vilma Menacho; Monteiro, Ângela Xavier; Araújo, Shirley M de; Monteiro, Ângela Xavier; Melo, Vilma da Silva; Pinto, Adriana Beatriz SilveiraThe public water supply coverage in terms of quantity and quality is a growing concern of humanity because of the scarcity of water and the deterioration of its quality. Considering the water not only something essential for all beings lives, but also as a cultural element and object of disputes between the population. The goal of this research was to verify the drinkable water supply coverage offered by the public system of water supply which belongs to the counties of The Health Region nearby Manaus. The research consists of a ecological study, by means of data from secondary sources, such as System of information of Quality Surveillance of Water for human consumption to rate the water supply coverage in the counties of the Health Region nearby Manaus and the Brazilian Institute of Geography & Statistics & Atlas of human development for the Sociodemographic data. The data collected was organized in Microsoft Excels spreadsheets and later on analyzed in a descriptive manner by means of absolute and relative frequencies. When analyzing the percentage of population with water supply, the county with higher percentage of coverage was the capital, Manaus, and the county with the lowest percentage of coverage was Careiro da Várzea with 5,87% of its population covered with water supply; 58,34% of the counties did not count with water treatment delivered to the population, of this total 41,77% didn’t perform control of the water’s quality by the responsible companies, which could incur prejudice to the health of the population. There were no relations between the percentage of water supply coverage with the human deve index in the sutied counties, evidencing that additional researches must be conducted to monitor the quality of the water delivered to the population of said region. It can be concluded that the period studied, most of the counties in the Health Region nearby Manaus don’t count with water treatment that is offered to the population and there’s no monitoring of the water quality in parts of those counties
