A Orquestra da Real Câmara no Brasil (1808-1830)

The aim of this paper is to bring information about the activity of the Orquestra da Real Câmara in Rio de Janeiro, reporting since its formation with the arrival of the Portuguese Royal Family in Brazil, organization and participation in the musical activity of the city. Due to the scarcity of organized sources and documents about this entity, this research is a collection of information contained in books, newspapers, notes by the researcher Cleofe Person de Mattos, and bibliography about musical life in Brazil from 1808 to 1830, organized under topics . The historical events that contributed to the orchestra formation are presented; identification of the orchestra members and some of their functions; types of events in which the orchestra participated, involving court chamber music, public celebrations, religious ceremonies, operas, amongst others; and some of the records about the performed repertoire, enriching the perspective on orchestral musical practices in this period.
