The article discusses the concepts of heritage of two social groups related to total institutions in Vila Santo Antonio do Prata, northeast of Pará.Indigenous and former inmates of a leprosarium have particular meanings about the built environment of the place.From the concept of social memory, weapproach how the life experiences of these individuals point to the need for preservation of the village buildings.
