Plants and their extracts are everywhere, and natural products based on plants and herbs are of great interest in the major consumer markets worldwide. Plant extracts are used in medicines by the pharmaceutical industry, in cosmetics, in agriculture, in biological pest control, etc. In the vegetable species Vismia guianensis there are biological molecules with effective action in medical treatments and as antimicrobials, being widely used in folk medicine. An expository class on biology was held with the students and the applications of Vismia guianensis, then a practice was carried out to produce the plant extract in the laboratory and the evaluation was done through questionnaire application. Most of the answers given by the students corresponded to the class taught, with a significant number of correct answers, with satisfactory performance and expected to assimilate the theme proposed in the classroom. In this way, classes help to develop scientific knowledge, as well as allow students help the teacher to build a new vision on the same topic.
