In light of these premises, the present study aimed to map the accidents occurred in the age group from 2 to 6 years old; to identify the profile of the child who suffered an accident, the kind of accident and its consequences. This is a descriptive, exploratory research with a quantitative and qualitative approach. The study was carried out in two public day-care centers located in different regions of the city of São Paulo. The results presented that girls suffered more accidents than boys; most of the accidents involving children aged from 2 to 6 years old were falls and the most affected part of the body were the upper limbs. Further studies should be conducted on the theme, as accidents are part of life and they happen in a significant proportion during childhood. Keywords: child. accident. day-care center. public health.
