The civil registration of birth is the first official document of a person at birth, which makes it possible to enter the country's citizenship and justice services. The existence of children who do not have a birth certificate is a violation of a basic right, the right to exist legally, as stated in the legislation. This work assumes that the cases of children from Tefe without paternal recognition in their records are reflections of a sociological situation that involves political issues of citizenship and social relations, rooted in paternal abandonment. The methodological basis of this study is based on data collection carried out at the Extrajudicial Notary's Office of the district of Tefé - CECT, Amazonas, and on the actions of the "My Father has a Name" project of the Public Defender's Office of the State of Amazonas - DPE, as well as data from the National Association of Registers of Natural Persons - ARPEN BRASIL and the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics - IBGE. Thus, this work aims to analyze how these paternal absences contribute to the subjective and social formation of Tefe's society.
