Resumo
There is an increase in research investigating children's sports initiation in Brazil. On this topic, one of the factors that impacts this process is the influence of parents on sports initiation. In this sense, what has been produced in Brazilian literature, in the last ten years, about the influence of parents on their children's sports initiation? OBJECTIVE: to analyze, through Brazilian scientific production from 2013-2023, the influence of parents on their children's sports initiation. METHODOLOGY: it is a bibliographical research, which is characterized as State of Knowledge, covering studies in original article format published in the databases: Scielo, Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde and Portal CAPES. The following descriptors were used: “Sports Initiation”; and “Countries”, using the Boolean operator “AND”. 58 articles were found, which went through filtering (inclusion and exclusion criteria) until the number of 12 productions was reached, which makes up the corpus of this research. Data analysis was through thematic analysis and descriptive statistics of percentage (%) and frequency (f). RESULTS: the following categories for presenting results were created: a) A profile of scientific production and authors on the influence of parents on their children's sporting initiation; b) Methodological procedures adopted in research on the influence of parents on their children's sporting initiation; and, c) Main factors portrayed in research on the influence of parents on their children's sports initiation. Regarding the profile of scientific production and authors, it is noted that the Revista Brasileira de Futsal e Futebol is the vehicle that published the most articles on this topic and that the South region, followed by the Southeast, has more authors interested in the topic studied here. Regarding methodological procedures, it was found that the productions benefit from a qualitative approach, guided by the predominance of the type of descriptive research. Regarding the main factors portrayed in the research, two main themes emerged: positive factors (such as the “emotional support” provided by parents through affection and encouragement of sporting activities) and negative factors (such as the “demand for good results” delegated by parents regarding their children's sporting performance). CONCLUSION: it is considered that there was a low number of publications in the analyzed databases, as well as a lack of research in other regions of the country. It is noted that parents play a fundamental role in their children's sporting initiation, which can have beneficial or harmful characteristics, depending on the influence exerted
