Resumo
To determine the frequency and factors associated with hospital evasion among
people living with HIV/AIDS. Method: Quantitative, retrospective study based on the analysis
of 129 medical records of patients hospitalized for HIV/AIDS who presented hospital evasion
between 2020 and 2022. Sociodemographic, clinical, and institutional variables were analyzed,
expressed in absolute and relative frequencies, means, and standard deviations. Results: There
was a predominance of males (74.4%), age group 30 to 39 years (40.6%), and urban origin
(89.1%). About 49.6% belonged to socially vulnerable groups, especially drug users (34.9%)
and alcoholics (29.5%). Most had a single evasion (74.4%), with an average of 1.54 ± 0.98
occurrences. The average number of hospitalizations was 6.04 ± 4.62. The main cause of
evasion was refusal to remain hospitalized (79.1%), followed by abstinence from psychoactive
substances (14.0%). Internal notification was the most frequently recorded institutional
measure, although there was a lack of complementary follow-up actions. Conclusion: Hospital
evasion among people living with HIV stems from the interaction between social vulnerability
and failures in continuity of care. It is imperative to strengthen institutional protocols and
multidisciplinary strategies that promote adherence, reduce recidivism, and ensure
comprehensive care.
