Abstract

The present work is inserted in the thematic area of semiotics of Charles Sanders Peirce (1972; 1998) and is concerned with a study of the symbolic image in the legend of Iara or Mãe D'água D'água in the history of Amazonian culture. The focus of the research is phenomenological and the used is of exploratory nature with qualitative bibliographical research. A analysis will be based on the adopted theoretical framework (PEIRCE 1972, 1998; SANTAELLA, 2008; LOUREIRO, 2015; BRANDÃO, 1991; CASCUDO, 1983;1984; CHEVALIER and GHEERBRANT, 2005; JOLY, 2015).
