Resumo
The aim of this study was to identify in national scientific production changes that
have occurred in the tradition of the Waimiri-Atroari indigenous people through
comprehensive health care. Method: This is an integrative literature review using the Lilacs,
Scielo, Medline (via VHL) and Google Scholar databases. The descriptors used were:
"Health", "Indigenous peoples", "Culture", "Health care", "Waimiri-atroari". A summary
table was used to organize the data. Results: This review includes 10 articles published in
Portuguese, English and Spanish, 3 (30%) in Lilacs, 1 (10%) Scielo, 2 (20%) Medline (via
BVS), and 4 (40%) in the Google Scholar database. After analysis, three thematic axes
emerged: immersion in tradition; professionals in care; differentiated care. The results show
that health professionals subjugate traditional knowledge in the care of indigenous people,
due to ethnocentric scientific thinking, but that differentiated care through cultural
competence can provide interculturality in health care. Conclusion: Knowledge about
traditional aspects related to comprehensiveness in the health practice of indigenous
Waimiri-atroari women is feasible, despite the lack of comparative studies on the subject over
the decades. Filling this gap is the practice of differentiated care and new research in the area
