Resumo
The present article inserted in the area of Portuguese Literature, deals with the trips and migrations that occurred in the
literary context of the work Emigrants, published in 1928. The narrative presents a social dimension that
highlights the relationships established between Manuel da Bouça, the Portuguese emigrant and the reality he finds
overseas, specifically in Brazil. The fictional work addresses the theme of Portuguese emigration in Brazil,
through the protagonist character Manuel da Bouça. The general objective of the research is to present an analysis,
through a critical-literary reading, about the trips and migrations undertaken in the literary and social context
de Emigrantes, the work of the Portuguese writer Ferreira de Castro and in terms of methodological aspects,
first, it used the critical-reflexive reading of the object of study itself: the work Emigrants and also used sources from researchers and theorists such as: Todorov (2010), Spivak (1994), Gondim (2007), among
others. Subsequently, using authors who dialogue with the Portuguese narrative in question, they deepened theoretical assumptions that served as a basis for the research. In academic work, it is contextualized
the neorealistic romance with the speeches present in the interviews of emigrants living in the municipality of
Tefé, as a way of enriching research. As for the results, it can be concluded that the analysis of the
novel Emigrantes, by Ferreira de Castro and the analysis of the interviews made with two foreigners, a Peruvian and
another Haitian, led to the observation that it involves a historical past, directed to a lived social reality,
even today in contemporary times, as is the case with questions related to the migratory process.
