Resumo
This article analyzes aspects of Maria do Socorro Pereira's political trajectory in the municipality of Boa Vista do Ramos, Amazonas, during her two terms as mayor (1983-1986) and (1993-1996). Dona Maria do Socorro Pereira, born on December 18, 1943, in the municipality of Maués, worked as a secretary for 11 years in the municipal government of Maués, after which she applied and served as a councilor in Maués. In 1983 she was elected the first mayor of the municipality, shortly after her emancipation. Her trajectory allows us to discuss gender relations: inequality between men and women in spheres of power, as in politics, given that this sphere is considered almost exclusively male; to identify discrimination from the moment in which a female role is sought in the politics of the Lower Amazon. The methodology used in this article is Oral History, to analyze part of the trajectory of the mayor of Boa Vista do Ramos, through the memory of Socorro Pereira, to find and emphasize the stories of female protagonism in the sphere of power in the Lower Amazon.
