A importância socioambiental do quintal produtivo no bairro São José Operário, Parintins-AM: um estudo nas ruas Coronel Barreto Batista e Raimundo Almada

Abstract

This paper presents a discussion about the socioenvironmental importance of the yard for the residents of the São José Operário Parintins-Am neighborhood. Urban backyards have become a strategy to alleviate the poverty and hunger of several families. This system aims at the cultivation of plant species as well as the breeding of animals guaranteeing the food and economic security of the families that reside in the city. The activity has an effective link with the land, guaranteeing the production and reproduction of diversities in the urban perimeter. In this sense, the objective of this study was to study the socioenvironmental importance of the productive yard for the families of Coronel Barreto Batista and Raimundo Almada streets in the São José Operário neighborhood. The study was based on a phenomenological approach, where it enabled us to understand the relationships built by the residents with the backyard environments. We carried out a bibliographical survey, with field research, observation and semi-structured interviews with 12 residents. Through this study we can identify how the yard is organized in the urban space, and how it is maintained, the relationship of the residents with the yard is affective, represented by the care with the place. We can mention that the urban backyard is of great importance for families engaged in this activity in which it provides food, economic, socio-cultural and environmental security in the city and in the lives of the residents.
