Individual Microentrepreneur is defined as the self-employed worker, with a legalized
enterprise as a small business owner, with revenues of up to eighty one thousand reais per
year. The present work has as main objective to analyze the profile of the MEI from
Amazonas, the specific objectives were: to describe the entrepreneur profile, to analyze its
relation with credit and to relate the MEI profile with the entrepreneur concepts of
opportunity and necessity. The article was developed from a descriptive study, using
statistical method for data consolidation. Research results show that there is a continuous
growth in the number of MEI, but with significant reductions due to defaults on payment of
DAS, the amazonense MEI have a preference for the commerce sector, especially retail and a
majority of men. The lack of planning of the MEI from Amazonas is evident from the
preference for riskier credit categories, they do not have a CNPJ type bank account and
resistance to targeted credit. It can be concluded that Amazonense MEI needs more assistance
in the use of credit, as well as monitoring that assists in the bureaucracy, thus preventing the
entrepreneur from entering more expensive credit categories.
