Resumo

The objective of this study is to demonstrate the importance of reading and insertion of Afro-Brazilian literature in the school environment of the students of the second year of high school in a public school in Parintins, according to Law 10.639 / 2003. Starting from the hypothetical-deductive method in which the afroBrazilian literature can be important for students and teachers so that they can reflect on this literature and insert it as a strategy to be worked in the classroom in a way that can contribute to the process of citizen training from its use in Portuguese language classes. The bibliographical research and action research had as theoretical support names such as Martins (1994), Lajolo (2001), Fonseca (2006), Brazil (2003), Dias Debus e Vasques (2009), which were used for the development of this investigation. The data collection was done through questionnaires, workshops and interviews in the classroom with the students and two teachers in two classes of the second year of High School.
