Resumo

Currently, the quality of education promoted in our country has obtained alarming results in international assessments. According to the PISA done in 2015, Brazil occupies the 63rd position in Science in the world ranking made up of 72 countries. Moreover, the results of the Basic Education Development Index (IDEB) in the state of Amazonas and the city of Manaus are below 6.0 which is the index considered appropriate in a quality education system. Understanding this problem, it becomes almost impossible not to ask what to do to change or at least improve this reality. In parallel to this, we have the Amazon, which is considered one of the biomes with the greatest richness of turtle species in the world, however, he lay population has little knowledge about them because the scientific dissemination about these animals occurs mainly in non-formal spaces of education and thinking about the territorial extension of the Amazon, it is not logistically possible for the entire population to have access to this information. Therefore, it was necessary to unlink scientific dissemination about the Amazon chelonians from these places, for society know more about the local biodiversity. It is possible to make a connection between wonder and learning, considering that wonder is an emotion awakened by curiosity that drives the individual on a journey of discovery and learning, so using this wonder in the teaching-learning process can help to improve the problematic in teaching. Thinking about it, the goal of this research was to know the wonder focuses of elementary school 2 students on the theme of the Amazon turtles. This is a qualitative research approach, characterized by the applied nature and has explanatory goals. The research was developed from the online extension course on reptiles and the diversity of Amazonian Turtles, it involved 18 elementary school II students, was made out through remote classes and data collection took place mainly through digital forms. The results showed that there are three important points, which are indispensable for wonder: the experience of the class, the resources used and the teacher's personal wonder for the subject he teaches. Regarding the wonder caused by the chelonians in the Amazon, we found that the most enchanted were the “curiosities”, as they appeared in 54.54% of the answers, followed by the “characteristics” with 22.72% and finally the category “diversity” with 18.20% of responses, in addition one response was considered invalid representing 4.54%. We also noticed that the species that most attracted the students' attention were the Mata-matá and the Amazon Turtle, and that to work on this theme, the resources that proved to be efficient were the oratory associated with images, videos and sounds. This approach proved to be efficient and can be used when it is not possible to take students to a non-formal space that has these animals. Based on these results, we highlight the need for further research to expand discussions on the theme of wonder applied to teaching, expanding this approach to other age groups. As well as works that value local biodiversity and encourage its protection. Keywords: Wonder. Turtles. Science teaching.
