Avanços e desafios na gestão ambiental municipal: um estudo de caso do município de Parintins.

Abstract

This study investigates environmental management in Parintins, a municipality in the Amazon region, addressing challenges and advancements in the pursuit of sustainable development. Methodologically, the study adopted a mixed-methods approach combining qualitative and quantitative methods, with secondary data collected from the municipal environmental agency and interviews, allowing for an analysis of environmental management practices in the municipality of Parintins. This provided an understanding of the challenges faced and the strategies employed. Among the challenges identified are the predatory exploitation of natural resources, environmental pollution, lack of infrastructure for solid waste management, and the fragility of water resources. On the other hand, advancements such as the creation of initiatives to promote sustainable development and environmental preservation stand out. The Municipal Secretariat for Sustainable Development and the Environment (SEDEMA) of Parintins plays a fundamental role in coordinating public policies, issuing environmental licenses, monitoring, and promoting environmental education, contributing to the preservation of biodiversity and improving the quality of life in the municipality.
