Act in the synthesis of knowledge on the topic of gender violence in universities, in addition to pointing out gaps in knowledge that must be addressed in future research. Methodology: integrative literature review, which enables the synthesis of multiple studies available in databases and infers general conclusions on the topic of interest to the researcher. The research question was “What evidence do we have about the treatment of gender-based violence at Brazilian universities in the last 5 years?” To search for Brazilian scientific production on the topic, we defined the controlled descriptors from the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS) database: Violence; Gender-based violence; universities; Brazil. The databases used were LILACS, Scielo and VHL. Results: This literature review covered 17 articles that focus on gender-based violence in the university context in Brazil. The targeted scientific production was published in Portuguese. Most of the results come from Scielo (9 results – 56.25%) and LILACS (8 results – 12.5%). Conclusion: Violence was perceived as a socially conditioned phenomenon and expressed in an objective dimension of reality. Regarding the profile of publications, we published mainly in article format and in national journals. We highlight the leading role that nursing plays in this topic, but it is not a discussion exclusive to this area, but for the entire academic community. Discussions on this topic are relevant to the authors consulted, and require broad participation from the higher education community inside and outside the institution. As a possible gap that still remains for investigation, we have that society itself has a great role, both as a promoter and as a delayer in our discussion
