Resumo
The article deals with the Course Completion Work - TCC exposing the results of the
research that has as its theme "The incentive to read through amazonian legends in elementary
school in Alvarães - AM". We know that our Amazon is full of spells and stories. The people
living on this green ground are rich in knowledge, rich in spectacular culture and legend
telling. In this respect, from this curiosity, there was an interest in hearing from teachers and
students their knowledge and difficulties related to the legends of our daily life. Thus, we
outline as a general objective to provide the faculty with contact with a regional bibliographic
collection to facilitate the teaching-learning process aiming at encouraging reading through
Amazonian legends. The theoretical framework was based on Terra (2019), Kleiman (2010),
Costa (2009), Cardoso (2018) and Freire (2001). The methodology was based on qualitative
approach and field research based on Chizzotti (2006), Marconi and Lakatos (1999). The
techniques were observation and the mixed questionnaire used to collect true information. The
target audience was two teachers and five students from the 6th and 9th grade. The results
collected show the difficulties of the students in reading, but the legends were paramount for
the development of orality and strengthening of student knowledge. Thus, we consider that
the textual genre is rich in cultural knowledge and magic, so it is indicated to the students
