Resumo
The current reality of river transport of cargo and passengers in the Amazon region is affected
by problems linked to the lack of infrastructure and safety in navigation, which contributes to
the increasing number of accidents and victims in such a transport modality. The university can
work to develop technical-scientific procedures that allow to understand the behavior of ships
and find options to solve these challenges. Characterizing the hydrodynamics of vessels,
including the study of their hull resistance and response in waves, can contribute to the
understanding of their behavior in various operating conditions. This work aims to instruct the
computational modeling procedure of the hull, estimation of the ship resistance and dynamic
behavior of a longitudinal passenger transport vessel that is typical of the Amazon region: an
express-type ship. The main objective is to guide the three-dimensional hull design procedure
from the body plan and use this geometry to carry out parametric studies of ship resistance and
response in regular waves, using software for practical use. Therefore, this work involves the
application of two computational tools, the Rhinoceros software for three-dimensional hull
design and the Maxsurf software, in its Resistance and Motions modules, for ship resistance and
motion calculations, respectively. The results obtained through the software allowed us to
conclude important observations, which can be subsequently evaluated and compared with the
performance of experimental tests. It is hoped that this methodology can be extended to
characterize the hydrodynamic behavior of other regional vessels.
