Resumo
What if we thought about science education in the Amazon Forest based on the indigenous
way of living? In these writings we will not be talking about how to teach Occidental Science
in an indigenous community. On the other hand, I propose to think that the teaching of these
sciences can be inspired by our indigenous way of existing in the world and our relationship
with nature – which we also are part of. Our guiding principle will be Biodiversity Education
in an intercultural dialogue with a indigenous community with whom I share ancestry. So, I
invite everyone to think about biodiversity beyond the diversity of living beings and their
genetic information, directing ourselves to think about this concept in an intrinsic and
inseparable relationship with cultural diversity. It is worth mentioning that indigenous
peoples, in their territories, throughout time on Earth, granted ways of maintenance and
well-being of nature and biodiversity. Considering all this, the research presented here
followed an autoethnographic perspective, with the contribution of photographic records and
participant observation, to introduce the relationship between the culture of a multiethnic
community and the biodiversity in the territory, mainly focusing on the knowledge and
practices that involve learning how to live in the territory. Knowing these relationships, we all
can then think about the possibility of science education in the Amazon Forest in an
intercultural perspective.
