Abstract

This study seeks to understand the geology-geomorphology of the Parintins/Manaus/Presidente Figueiredo stretch in the State of Amazonas, which presents significant geological and environmental richness, influenced by the diversity of Amazonian ecosystems and the geological history of the region. The Parintins/Manaus stretch was traversed by river and the Manaus-Presidente Figueiredo stretch was traversed by highway BR - 174. These stretches are differentiated both in age and in the shape of the rocks, thus presenting a rich and complex geological and geomorphological history. The formation of the relief is characterized by a variety of rock formations, geomorphological units and geological processes that shaped the landscape over millions of years. The geology of this stretch is formed by sedimentary rocks from the Cenozoic era of the Tertiary and Quaternary periods. Tertiary (Serra da Valeria, Vila Amazônia), but the stretch of the river is characterized by younger terrains formed in the Quaternary period, approximately 2 million years ago (Parintins Island). And younger terrains, from the Holocene period. The geological and geomorphological profile of the Manaus/Presidente Figueiredo stretch, in the state of Amazonas, Brazil, is quite diverse. Most of the geology is composed of the Alter do Chão Formation, which is made up of sandstones, claystones and conglomerates older than the Parintins-Manaus stretch. Red, hard and poorly stratified clayey sandstones. Therefore, it is necessary to compare the stretches for a better understanding of the geomorphological studies of the Amazon region.
