Os deuses primitivos greco-romanos e as divindades caruanas

Abstract

The following article is of a bibliographic nature. It aims to analyze the similarities between the caruanas—enchanted spirits of the pajelança tradition—and the Greco-Roman aquatic gods, drawing on the works of Zeneida Lima, Hesiod's Theogony, and Ovid's Metamorphoses. It highlights passages concerning aquatic deities in Greco-Roman works, as well as the chapters “The World of Waters,” “In the Beginning There Was Water,” and “Punishment of Perdition” in Zeneida's work, using the studies of Câmara Cascudo, Mircea Eliade, and Carl Jung as a foundation to determine the intertextualities, similarities, and differences between the symbolism, archetypes, and narrative structures of indigenous and caboclo myths and the Greco-Roman myths, including myths from the Iberian region, which still retains significant Roman influence.
