To understand how music therapy, in the context of health promotion,
produces well-being and your contribution to improving the quality of life of elderly
patients. Method: This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach, guided by a
semi-structured form, carried out between October 2 and November 17, 2023, at the Open
University of the Third Age Foundation (FUnaTI), in the south of Manaus. The data
obtained was submitted to thematic content analysis (Minayo). Results: The study
involved 31 elderly people aged between 60 and 88 who regularly attended music therapy,
choir and guitar workshops, of whom 7 attended the music therapy workshop, 4 the guitar
workshop and 20 the choir workshop. In general, the participants tried to occupy their
free time with an activity that they really enjoyed and that had to do with music. The
participants registered positive changes in their mood, lifestyle and socialization. Final
considerations: The well-being and quality of life in elderly patients (or patients of any
age) through music therapy allows both family members and the healthcare team to have
a holistic view of this public, which goes beyond the disease that accompanies them or
the challenges that arise during the process of senescence, being able to adopt other forms
of care, being more economical and promoting the well-being of the individual at this
stage of life. In this way, music therapy is essential for maintaining the mental and
physical health and general well-being of older people, as well as being an accessible and
low-cost tool, it also has a potential therapeutic and clinical use that can go beyond
palliative care
