Resumo

This qualitative course conclusion study discusses the problem of inadequate disposal of solid waste in the city of Parintins, based on: The Environmental Perception of Geography Students on the Parintins Municipal Landfill from the fifth period of the Geography course at the Center of Higher Studies of Parintins. The problem of the irregular deposit of waste, characterized as an open-air dump, is one of the biggest aggravating factors in the Brazilian geographic space, whether urban or rural, and in Parintins this is apparent because it is within a set of neighborhoods and nearby from the State University of Amazonas. To consider this situation - problem, this study aimed to analyze the environmental perception of Geography students about the municipal dump in the city of Parintins. The techniques used were the observation of the socio-environmental landscape of the landfill space and its relationship with the university campus, as well as the use of the mental map as a technique to perceive the latent meanings attributed by academics to the municipal landfill. The results pointed to the fragility of the urban environment and the socio-environmental and health problems that the public garbage dump in Parintins causes to those who live close to the place.
