The Electric Power System works with constant modifications due to its complexity and
non-linearity, which are caused by the increase in energy demand or variations resulting from
physical or environmental phenomena. To ensure the reliability and availability of the system,
the National Electric System Operator requires that a series of minimum requirements be met
by the generating units that will be connected to the system, which relate to voltage and
frequency variation to guarantee electromechanical stability. of the system for reliable and safe
operation. In this work, the theory, the motivations, and the way in which the tests were carried
out to compose the electromechanical stability study of the W18V50SG engine will be
presented. Subsequently, the collected data were entered into the Electromechanical Transient
Analysis Program - ANATEM, created by the Eletrobras Electrical Engineering Research
Center, for simulations that create approximate scenarios with transients and real faults to verify
the machine's behavior and capacity. of self-regulation. During the tests, the actions of the
voltage regulators and motor speed were evaluated, in the end, after processing the data in the
aforementioned programs, the results and behavior of the machine met the minimum technical
requirements demanded by the National Electric System Operator for validation of the set motor
generator.
