Resumo
To evaluate the profile of mothers of preterm newborns hospitalized and assisted by the kangaroo method. Method: Quantitative cross-sectional study, developed in a reference Maternity Hospital in the city of Manaus-AM, with 30 mothers of newborns hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, included in the first or second phase of the Kangaroo method, between the months of April and June 2021. Data collection took place after approval by the Research Ethics Committee, through information obtained in interviews using a specific questionnaire and evaluation of the records contained in the medical records. Subsequently analyzed, typed and tabulated in Microsoft Excel 2010. Results: Regarding the profile, the predominance of young adult women aged between 21 and 29 years, single, with a medium level of education, self-declared brown skin color and all with low income, maintaining occupations, with their own home of 2-3 rooms, was analyzed. They were multiparous with 2-3 pregnancies, history of previous cesarean section, less than 6 prenatal consultations and type of cesarean delivery, whose duration was 32-36 weeks. During pregnancy, the most common complications were urinary tract infection, high blood pressure, gestational diabetes and syphilis. Conclusion: Through the analysis of the profile of mothers of preterm newborns hospitalized and assisted by the kangaroo method, the presence of evident indices of socioeconomic vulnerability was found, a fact that directly interferes with obstetric and gynecological characteristics and increases the risk of preterm birth by acting as health determinants and conditions.
