Abstract

This article discusses the female characters in the work Metamorphoses from a contemporary perspective, aiming to highlight moments when the metamorphoses were used by these characters as a means to escape the advances of male characters, currently referred to as harassment, considering feminist theories. The work is critically analyzed, not to discredit it, but to bring to light the problematic treatment of female characters. The analysis assumes that Ovid’s work is a reflection of the society of the time is was written, and that the discussion about the role of women in society is still relevant today. The article brings reflections and contributions to the discussion on gender equality and the role of women in contemporary society.
