Resumo

This study presents the association of Leishmania species with the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis, native to the Amazon. It is a descriptive, prospective, randomized and controlled clinical trial for the treatment of patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis using oral and parenteral drugs. A total of 36 patients were included and four species of Leishmania were identified (Leishmania amazonensis, L. braziliensis, L. guyanensis, L. naifii), with a predominance of males (31 (86.11%), mean age of 40.1 years), the majority (22 (61.1%) from rural areas of the metropolitan region of Manaus, mainly from highways BR-174 and AM-010. Single ulcerated lesion manifestation was observed in 19 (52.78%) patients, and greater involvement (16 (43.24%) in the upper limbs. The average time of active injury was 48.14 days. In the samples of most patients, 28 (75.68%) were identified as the species L. guyanensis, being the only one that caused the manifestation of more than two lesions in three (10.71%) of the patients. In three (8.33%) patients, with varied occupations (nurse, retired person and salesperson), the species L. naiffi was infected. In summary, there was a prevalence of L. (V.) guyanensis as the species causing the infection in most patients, reflecting the clinical-epidemiological profile already described and established in the region, where there was a predominance of males of working age, the origin of the infection in rural areas of the metropolitan regions of Manaus, the largest occupational group affected was agriculture and extractivism, manifestation of a single ulcerated lesion with well-defined edges, a reddish background and painless, greater involvement of the upper limbs, with an average time of evolution of 48.14 days.
