Resumo
Ophidic accidents represent a significant public health problem in the Amazon region, with
emphasis on envenomations caused by snakes of the Bothrops genus, which frequently
evolve with a substantial local and systemic inflammatory response. This study aimed to
evaluate the effects of low-level laser photobiomodulation on inflammatory markers (CRP,
ESR, LDH, AST, and ALT) in patients who were victims of Bothrops snakebites. This is a
quantitative, observational, and analytical study conducted with 60 patients hospitalized at
the Dr. Heitor Vieira Dourado Tropical Medicine Foundation, 30 of whom were treated
with photobiomodulation and 30 assigned to the control group. Clinical and laboratory data
were obtained from medical records and analyzed using appropriate statistical tests. The
results demonstrated that patients subjected to photobiomodulation showed a significant
reduction in CRP, ESR, LDH, and AST levels, with a downward trend also observed for
ALT, suggesting modulation of the inflammatory response and a possible tissue-protective
effect. It is concluded that low-level laser photobiomodulation represents a promising
complementary intervention in the management of Bothrops snakebites, especially in
contexts with limited access to specialized treatments, such as in the Amazon region.
