Resumo

One of the main agricultural activities developed by Amazonians since the beginning of time is the cultivation of cassava. This activity requires the commitment and work of all family members, necessary to provide sustenance, especially for those living in rural areas. Therefore, this work aimed to understand how we can work with geographical content based on local traditional knowledge, such as the cassava cultivation and processing process, and thus contribute to the meaningful learning of students. To clarify the understanding of the geography of cassava, a term used in the title of this work, I define here a geography that, when worked on as a curricular component in schools, can value local knowledge by using as a methodology the entire process involved in cassava cultivation, which includes everything from choosing the land for cultivation, cleaning, selecting the cassava cuttings, processing and food production, to its use on the consumer's table. This research highlights the importance of addressing topics like this, considering their potential to develop critical thinking, appreciation for local context, and creativity in children through activities that integrate school and cultural knowledge.
