Resumo
The Gross Domestic Product - GDP is one of the instruments of measurement of
the economy of a country being considered a form of evaluation of the growth and the
investment potential of the same. Among the various relations that can be established for
GDP numbers, one should consider the country's default rate as an interference with this
index. This research aimed to analyze the impact of default on the growth of Brazil's Gross
Domestic Product from 2006 to 2010. Through a bibliographic search and access to official
data of the rates and indices proposed by the work it was possible to identify several aspects.
relevant to the problem, which fit the need for deepening such as the GDP calculation
formulas, for example. Looking at the year-over-year delinquency rate and GDP figures for
the same period, it was observed that even with the latter's growth, the delinquency rate was
high, while it declined in periods of recession or stagnation of GDP. It was possible to
conclude that in periods of low Gross Domestic Product individuals tend to settle their doubts
considering the offer of better trading conditions, directly interfering GDP growth
