Resumo
This work proposes to discuss the environmental sustainability in the state of Amazonas. Specifically on the conceptuais bases of the Water Footprint and Ecologigal Footprint method, and the quantification of water consumption in watering the beef cattle herd in the State of Amazonas, for the year 2021, thus determining the values in cubi meters, megaliters and in global hectare. The work arises from the need to visualize and communicate the volume of fresh water involved in watering beef cattle, and the area needed to maintain the flow in the prodution system for beef producers and consumers. The research began with a bibliographic review, followed by a survey of secondary data at the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistic (IBGE), at the IBGE Automatic Recovery System (SIDRA), at the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA), and at the Associação Brazilian Company of Frigorificos (ABRAFIGO). After secondary research; and with the tabulated data, the calculation of the Water Footprint (Ecological) wa applied to determine the volume of fresh water consumed by the cattle herd, and thus determine the per capita and absolute area necessary to sustain the flow of anual consumption in the system. The values found area quite expressive for a beginner producing region, in addition to demosntrating the demando of this activity on the water resource and also the advance over the state.
