Resumo
Biological collections play a crucial role in biodiversity conservation and fauna studies. These
collections are collections on species diversity and generally include information on new taxa,
ecology and geographic distribution. Insect collections are essential to understanding the
diversity of this group of organisms, since they constitute one of the largest classes of
arthropods. With diverse habits, several species can cause accidents when interacting with
humans, through bites, stings or toxic substances, resulting in allergic reactions, inflammation
and, in more serious cases, medical complications. The main orders of insects involved in
accidents include Coleoptera, Hymenoptera and Lepidoptera, with their specific
representatives that present risks in human interactions. The objective of this study was to
describe aspects of the bioecology of non-hematophagous insects from the Arthropoda
collection of the FMT-HVD, as well as to investigate the knowledge of the population about
the accidents caused. The information present on the labels was collected and transcribed into
an Excel spreadsheet. The quantity of each specimen was verified at the level of Order, Family,
Genus and Species. Maps were created to demonstrate the spatial distribution of the entire
collection, using the free MapChart program. A survey of information was also conducted
among the population that seeks the FMT-HVD outpatient clinic to assess their knowledge
about accidents with insects of medical importance, through an interview, using the RedCap
application questionnaire. The results obtained showed that the largest quantity of specimens
was in the order Hymenoptera, with a total of 219 (69%). The largest percentage (67.4% (215)
of the specimens) was collected in the city of Manaus. The largest number of accidents
mentioned in the interviews was caused by insects of the order Hymenoptera, with a percentage
of 85% (56). Although 40 (52%) of the interviewees responded that they know how to proceed
after an accident, they do not follow what they say and what is recommended by MS. However,
around 77% (59) of participants responded that there is a need for campaigns by health
authorities to guide the population on ways to prevent and take care of accidents, aiming to
reduce the occurrence of accidents involving these insects.
