Resumo
This work aims to analyze the relationship between education and pegagogic practice of a
teacher qualified for Education of Young People and Adults (called as EJA teacher in this text),
considering specific reflections about alphabetization, as well as the participation of students
from the first segment of this teaching mode, in a public school in the north district of Manaus
city. On such purpose, a research had been developed by means of a bibliographic and
documentary survey, based on postulates of Freire (2011; 2019); Arroyo (2013); Soares (1998);
Paiva (2015) et al., as well as through field research in which direct observation of an teacher's
work is carried out in Education for Young People and Adults practice, in order to identify
studies and debates in the literature that are connected to education and pegagogic practice of
an EJA teacher; evaluate of the theoretical-methodological references of teaching and learning
practices for the development of students' reading skills; relate the theoretical-methodological
assumptions involving praxis and new concepts of alphabetization in the Education for Young
People and Adults. This is a descriptive research, with a qualitative approach. In data collection
procedures, participant observation, interview with the manager and a questionnaire to teachers
were used. Teacher training should be a special moment to assess such area of professional
activity and the need to implement educational policies that lead to real training for working
students. By emphasizing the relevance of the teacher's reflection on his own practice, on his
classroom, seeking alternatives through research on new methodological approaches,
improving his pedagogical practice, understanding that alphabetization is not just about
schooling, since education is the way in which we expect to guarantee the formation of citizens
with critical and participative roles in the decision-making processes of society.
