Resumo
This paper proposes an analysis of public policies for the inclusion of deaf students at
the Amazonas State University’s (UEA) superior schools of Manaus, characterized mainly by
the presence of interpreters and translators of deaf sign language in the classrooms
accompanying these students. The article presents an introduction to the concept of public
policies, especially in regard to public policies of inclusion, and an explanation of the
legislation dedicated to deaf people. A documentary research on inclusive actions for deaf
students was conducted in the top ten universities in Brazil, according to the Folha University
Ranking 2019 (RUF). The research is qualitative and had the use of semi-structured
interviews to give more freedom in the interviewees’ statements. The instruments were
applied to deaf sign language professionals from UEA units that have deaf students. In
addition to the interpreters, other forms of inclusion were analyzed, such as scholarships for
people with disabilities, teacher support and provision of teaching material. After all, a
reflection on the subject was made and some recommendations for development in the area
were suggested.
