Resumo

Orthodontics has several techniques that can be used for either orthodontic or orthopedic expansion. Several studies have shown that with the vast number of expanders it is possible to provide patients with a good dental stability, restoring their correct vestibular lingual slopes to the teeth without attacking the periodontium. The objective of this article was to report the clinical case of a female patient, in the mixed denture phase. The extraoral examination revealed that the patient had a vertical growth pattern, a convex profile, competent lip sealing and a lower left middle line. The intra-oral examination revealed that the patient presented class II malocclusion, division 2, left subdivision, with increased overjet, deep overbite, crowding in the upper and lower incisors region. The cephalometric analysis revealed a class II facial pattern. In addition to the negative model discrepancy in the upper and lower arcs. Treatment was performed with the Haas expander apparatus on the upper arch and Schwarz plate on the lower arch. In order to expand the upper and lower bony bases and supplying the lack of space to accommodate the teeth. The result showed that early treatment is essential for the development of dental arches providing the necessary space for the correct accommodation of permanent successor teeth
