A geopolítica ambiental da Pan-Amazônia: o tratado de cooperação amazônica no contexto das emergências climáticas

Abstract

This work, developed in the field of Public International Law, addresses the topic of the Environmental Geopolitics of the Pan-Amazon region, based on a study of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty, signed on July 3, 1978, and later converted into the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization on December 14, 1998. In this sense, the objective of this research is to analyze the Amazon Cooperation Treaty as an instrument of environmental governance in the context of climate emergencies. A qualitative methodological strategy was used, based on the deductive method, to conduct an exploratory study centered on a documentary and bibliographic review of specialized doctrines, scientific productions on environmental issues in the Pan-Amazon, and international treaties and conventions, especially the Amazon Cooperation Treaty and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The conclusion reached at the end of the research indicates that the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization, despite its limitations, has proven to be a unique instrument of regional coordination, paving the way for a more autonomous and integrated Amazonian governance, converging sovereignty, sustainable development, and international cooperation within the same space, all through frank dialogue with the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement.
