Resumo
The present work presents the results of the research that deals with “the occupation process of the Palmares neighborhood and the environmental problems on the banks of the Macurany River, Parintins –AM”. With the objective of understanding the process of occupation of the Palmares neighborhood, in the urban area of Parintins, exclusively the residents who occupy the shore of Lake Macurany and the impacts resulting from this occupation. Urban space brings with it the contradictions arising from the unequal way of appropriating its space. The wealthiest social groups occupy noble, valued areas, while the banks of rivers, hillsides, waterlogged valleys, etc. are left over for the poorest and most underserved. The work was developed through qualitative research with a dialectical approach, requiring the application of open questionnaires to residents. The results demonstrate, therefore, the construction of space and its occupation occurs due to several factors resulting from the urbanization process of a city, where the rural population begins to move towards the city, in search of better living conditions, characterizing a migratory movement, to the outskirts of the city, promoting the environmental degradation of the place. It is necessary to think about the city in order to direct populations, both resulting from vegetative growth and rural exodus, to more appropriate places with the necessary infrastructure, made possible by public policies.
