Resumo
The present work aims to present the academic reality of university students with visual impairment and blindness present at the Center for Higher Studies of Parintins (CESP), an institution belonging to the University of the State of Amazonas (UEA). This study sought to investigate the difficulties and possibilities of academics with visual impairment and blindness at the Center for Higher Studies in Parintins (CESP). In order to reach the general objective, we outlined the following specific objectives: to identify the teaching methods and techniques used by teachers in the learning of students with visual impairments at CESP-UEA; discover the difficulties faced by visually impaired students at (CESP-UEA). The authors who supported this study were: Mazzotta (2005), Glat (2009), Buccio and Buccio (2008) among other authors who discuss the perspectives of inclusion in society, emphasizing Special and Inclusive Education, especially in Higher Education. This research received a qualitative bias, with the phenomenological method of approach to understand the difficulties faced by blind and low vision academics, listing their challenges and developments to deal with the adversities that arise during this student stage. As a method of procedure, field research was used to highlight the possibilities of implementing an inclusive education at CESP/UEA. The results obtained in this research show that much still needs to be done so that the reality of universities can actually favor the teaching of people with visual impairments and blindness. We believe in the great relevance of this research to the educational field and to society in general, since it discusses inclusive means for people with disabilities, emphasizing necessary reflections regarding inclusion practices in different areas, but above all in the higher education scenario.
