Resumo
This article analyzes the socio-territorial relations between urban and rural spaces through a study of the Trindade family, residents of the riverside community of Yapuna in the municipality of Barreirinha, Amazonas. The research discusses the importance of social networks and traditional practices such as fishing, hunting, extractivism, and family-based agriculture, as well as the material and symbolic flows that connect rural areas to the city. The analysis is grounded in theoretical contributions from Geography, particularly the works of Milton Santos, David Harvey, and Vidal de La Blache, considering the multidimensional aspects that shape networks of sociability, economy, and culture within the Amazonian territory. The methodology employed draws on the Urban-Riverside Territorial Systems (Bartoli, 2022), describing the family’s territorialities based on the analysis of social networks, mapping of rural activities, connections with the city, flows, and landscape aspects. The results highlight a strong interdependence between urban and rural spaces in the municipality of Barreirinha, marked by socio-territorial relations that link the Yapuna riverside community to the city. Traditional practices—such as fishing, hunting, extractivism, and family farming—are shown to be not only subsistence activities but also cultural and identity expressions that organize community life. It was found that the flows of people, products, and information establish networks of sociability that integrate the riverside economy into the urban market, demonstrating that the Amazonian territory is composed of complementary interactions between rural and urban environments. The application of the Urban-Riverside Territorial Systems (STUR) model proved suitable for understanding these dynamics, highlighting the coexistence of tradition and modernity and reaffirming the relevance of riverside practices in shaping the contemporary Amazonian space.
