Resumo
This study addresses the issue of work and teacher health, based on evidence
associated with illness in the profession. Work, in the area of education, constitutes an
activity that can occupy a large portion of the individual's time, increasingly causing the
incidence of health problems, both at the beginning and at the end of the professional
journey. The research had as a general objective to understand factors present in the
context of the teaching work that lead to the illness of teachers. The methodology is
structured as a qualitative research in education, developed from a bibliographical and
documental survey, supported by the evidential paradigm, systematized by the Italian
historian Carlo Ginzburg. The results showed that among the main illnesses that most
affect teachers are psychosocial diseases (caused by intensifying work and stressful
situations), musculoskeletal and cardiovascular diseases (which cause functional
imbalance resulting from physical disorders), Burnout syndrome and voice disorders.
And among the factors that most contribute to such diseases, the intensification and
work overload, overcrowded classrooms, terrible salary conditions, devaluation,
among others, stand out. In the current context, with the emergence of the coronavirus
pandemic (COVID-19), cases of illness ended up getting worse, given the new working
conditions in which professionals were exposed. Cases like these are present in
several schools throughout the country, and here in Amazonas, I was able to witness
some of these events during the internship and also through studies carried out in
schools in the city of Manaus. Given the facts, this study showed that the
transformations that affect society end up affecting the educational system. And
therefore, in the teacher's work, which is increasingly complex and immersed in
constant challenges, which generates a great impact on the teacher's health and
makes him more vulnerable to occupational diseases.
