Homens e Barcos : Estaleiros, uma construção cultural na cidade de Terra Santa/Pará

Abstract

The paper presents a contextualization of the activities of the shipyards in the city of Terra Santa/PA. Their importance, the ability to remain active with artisanal shipbuilding and the need for changes and adaptations due to the demands of the maritime construction market. The research aims to identify what the production relationship between employer and employee is like, and how they adapt to these new demands of the naval market with the construction of wooden and iron boats, how the workforce of scientific technicians and professionals with traditional knowledge is characterized. The objective of the paper is to understand the artisanal production process in the shipyards, the steps developed by the professionals in each construction, and how knowledge is passed on informally during their learning methods. The methodological procedures were directed to a research with a qualitative, descriptive approach with basic characteristics that can serve as knowledge for new studies. To achieve the objectives, description and observation were used. As for the technical procedures, a bibliographical research was carried out based on theorists who talk about the subject and documentary research to identify the facts and stories of the shipyard. It was therefore identified that shipyards face difficulties in remaining active, the workforce is mostly informal, with only the engineer who signs the projects with a higher technical level, the artisanal work and the knowledge that is passed on in a traditional way from father to son or, for beginners in the profession.
