Class III malocclusion is conceptually characterized by the mesial relationship of the
mesiobuccal sulcus of the first permanent lower molar relative to the mesiobuccal cusp of
the first permanent maxillary permanent molar. This malocclusion, skeletally, can be caused
by mandibular prognathism, maxillary deficiency or by the combination of both. The
treatment of rapid maxillary expansion combined with the use of the face mask has
presented significant results that alter the relation of the dentofacial complex improving the
characteristics of the Class III pattern. The objective of this study was to report a case of
Class III malocclusion through the rapid expansion of the maxilla associated with its reverse
traction through the Petit face mask. The patient presented good adhesion and collaboration
in the use of the appliances, providing satisfactory clinical results after treatment with dental,
skeletal and soft tissue relations in the face in better harmony. After nine years of treatment,
the patient presented facial features that showed a mandibular prognathism, with the lower
lip positioned in front of the superior, presence of light negative horizontal trespass denoting
a soft anterior crossbite which probably occurred as a result of dental changes and in the
jaw. It is important to emphasize that the opportunity of early treatment may enable a
possible corrective camouflage approach in adulthood
