Resumo
Abstract:This study aims to verify the deletion of -r at the end of words in
writing of manauaras' students. The elision of -r at the end of words is a common phenomenon
It is a common phenomenon in languages, as the coda is the most unstable position within the word.
In Manauara speech, there is a strong tendency for this phoneme to be deleted in this position,
according to studies by Picanço and V. Martins (2019) and, therefore, the importance of
investigate this phenomenon also in school writing, considering the presence of orality in
writing. With this goal, a study of sociolinguistic variationist nature was carried out,
based on Callou, Moraes and Leitte (1998), Labov (2008), Marcuschi (2010), Pedrosa
(2014), Picanço and V. Martins (2019). The corpus of analysis consisted of the collection of 40 texts
produced by 8th grade students. From the analysis, it was found that there were 194
words in which, by the prescription of the Portuguese language orthography, should appear the (r)
In this case, it is important to note that it is not the first time that the word has been written. In the case of the latter, there were 98 occurrences (51%) and 96 cancellations (49%)
of this consonant in the external coda position, showing a balance between effections and
elisions. There were 59 elisions in texts produced by female and 37 by male students.
