Resumo
This article accosts some aspects of Stoic philosophy, focusing on one of the most
prominent philosophers of the Roman Empire, Seneca. This research focuses, especially,
on one of his philosophical works composed of epistles addressed to his pupil Lucilius,
in which Seneca reflects deeply on death, bringing the concept of a wise man, and
separating a type of pedagogy, where the practice of self-education. Also noteworthy is
Stoicism’s emphasis on virtues, essentially courage and temperance, placing them as
supreme objectives in life, highlighting that they can be achieved through reflection and
self-control. To analyze these reflections, we will deal a little with the historical context
in which Seneca lived, in which it was a period marked by political and social instability.
This approach is considered fundamental to understanding his philosophical vision,
whose pedagogical conduct seeks to remove man from anguish and fear, which are very
human characteristics.
