Resumo
With the constant evolution of the means of production, an increase in qualified competition in
the market and also the need to increase the quality of products as required by customers,
companies have become increasingly efficient in meeting these demands. For this, it was
necessary to optimize its existing means of production and promote new means with high
efficiency, both in relation to physical processes, as well as the administration of production,
aiming to reduce production costs and the consequent increase in profit. In the midst of crises
and the market showing several instabilities right after World War II, Japanese engineers from
Toyota Taichii Ohno and Eiiji Toyoda developed the Toyota Production System (STP), which
consists of consolidating solutions that achieve maximum production efficiency. This work
aims to describe the Lean Production Systems existing today, many of them derived from STP,
and how a company can achieve maximum production efficiency with the presentation of a case
study that gives rise to the theme of the work: Reduction of useless in low displacement
motorcycle exhaust welding through the analysis of process times, costs and production
efficiency based on Lean Manufacturing concepts.
