Resumo
This monograph seeks to conduct a dialogue between history and literature with the objective of discussing
the way the Amazonian characters are treated in the work "The Jungle", authored by the Portuguese
Ferreira de Castro. The work is justified both in the academic and social scenarios. First in the
intellectual sense: it's important because it sheds light on a theme that has long been the cause of
debate: the meeting between history and literature. A discussion that can present us with important
fruits for the study of man in time. The second is the social: here it finds importance a
since both areas of study are part of people's day-to-day lives, especially when it is a
theme that addresses such a remarkable period of the Amazon, which is rubber period. The work
divided into two chapters. We chose as methodology the bibliographic review and analysis of the book "The
Jungle." The first one cares to present a discussion about what is historical narrative,
literary narrative and the concept of representation. The second part will address the concept of peoples
as well as the visibility of this group. It will also discuss the context in which the
target work of this research was written. Finally, it will be analyzed how the characters are represented
in the book studied.
