Resumo
The use of play in geography education, extending to Environmental Education, constitutes an essential tool in the teaching-learning process. Given this assertion, this work presents a pedagogical proposal developed at the São José Operário do Limão Municipal School, located in the riverside community of São José do Limão do Meio, in Parintins (AM), aiming to understand how the use of playful activities can favor meaningful learning for riverside students, bringing school content closer to local reality and encouraging sustainable practices. The research, with a qualitative and phenomenological approach, used participant observation, activity records, and questionnaires for the interpretive analysis of the data. The actions involved awareness-raising work on solid waste, garbage, and recycling, and as a practical activity, a pedagogical workshop on the theme "Waste that Educates." For this purpose, models and recyclable materials were used to represent situations of pollution and waste reuse. The results demonstrated that playful activities sparked students' interest, facilitated the understanding of content, and promoted attitudes geared towards environmental preservation. The interpretive analysis of the data found that teaching Geography and Environmental Education through playful activities strengthens the relationship between school knowledge and the daily life of riverside communities, stimulating the formation of sustainable values and students' commitment to environmental care.
