Impacto das próteses dentárias na qualidade de vida dos pacientes atendidos nos estágios da policlínica odontológica da UEA

Abstract

The search for quality of life has been gradually increasing, arousing the population’s interest in its needs regarding health aspects and their social and economic interaction. A factor of great importance, with regard to quality of life, is precisely the patient’s satisfaction related to functional and aesthetic oral health, which influences not only self-esteem, social interaction, and physical and mental well-being, but also the individual’s nutritional level. This study evaluated the impact of dental prostheses (complete, removable, and fixed) on the quality of life of patients treated in the Dentistry internship program at UEA, comparing the perception of quality of life at the time of anamnesis, during the fabrication of the prostheses (before their use), and after a period of 3 to 6 months of use. For its execution, all adult patients undergoing prosthetic rehabilitation treatment in the Dentistry internship program at UEA were invited to participate in the research, totaling 40 patients between the period of 2023/2 and 2025/1. All evaluations were carried out through a standardized interview, defined by OHIP-14. The collected data were tabulated and underwent descriptive and statistical analysis (ANOVA). There was an improvement in the OHIP-14 total scores, capable of generating a positive impact on patients’ self-esteem and quality of life.
